Friday Film Pick – The Last Waltz

“This film should be played loud!”

The Last Waltz in my household is a Thanksgiving tradition. Though the actual performance took place during the American Thanksgiving in November, we still watch it every year on the Canadian Thanksgiving long weekend.

The Band

If you like music, and you like docs AND you’re a Scorsese fan, well then you’re in for a treat. Directed by Martin Scorsese The Last Waltz documents the Band’s final concert at the Winterland in San Francisco, after 16 years on the road together.

A mix of interviews, and onstage performances with guests such as Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell and Neil Young (aka. “Uncle Neil” as he was always referred to by the guys in the record shop I used to work at) the Last Waltz is the perfect music doc to throw on while prepping for a big Thanksgiving meal.

Robbie Robertson

It’s an interesting rock doc that really captures a moment in time and is a film I can watch easily again and again – and most certainly will this Thanksgiving weekend while in Northern Ontario.
